Born raised and educated in Chatham, ON. Married to Margaret who was working in Brantford, ON. Prior to enlisting Arthur was employed at McKeough & Trotter’s. The brother of Douglas in the RCAF and Harry who was on the staff of No. 12 BTC – Chatham.
In 1942 Pilot Officer and Mrs. Skinner were reported living at 397 Queen Sr., Chatham. In July of 1942, Mrs. Skinner spent a fortnight with her husband in Three Rivers where he was training. CDN 8/07/42 Arthur’s next stop was Hagersville, his wife was back in Chatham. CDN 23/07/42 After Arthur’s graduation exercises at No.16 S.F.T.S. Hagersville Arthur received his “Wings”. CDN 7/11/42(P)
Arthur inlisted in the Army, training at No. 12 BTC in Chatham reaching the rank of Corporal. he transfered to the RCAF in November of 1941.
Arthur enlisted in the Army, training at No. 12 BTC in Chatham reaching the rank of Corporal. After eight months in the Army he transferred to the RCAF in November of 1941. He trained and received his “Wings” as a fighter pilot but was transferred as a instructor in the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP) stationed at No.5 training School at Brantford. CDN 8/07/44(P).
The CDN 26/01/44 reported that F/O. Skinner accompanied by Mrs. M Tabberner the mother of his wife and a sister Mrs. A. Nagle to attend the funeral of his wife.
He was posted overseas and served for four months on ‘non-operational duties while in the United Kingdom.
“Everything s very similar in England except that they seem to be on a much smaller scale than here at home, buildings, street cars and even steaks, which are very scarce, but there is no limit to the hospitality and courage of the people.”
After returning to Canada and posted to Ottawa with the Transport Command.
