Born in Wallaceburg, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Orval Simpson of 931 Elgin St.,  Wallaceburg, ON. Attended Central Public School. Prior to the war Herbert was employed at the Dominion Glass Co. in Wallaceburg.

Appears on the “Muster Roll” of the 2nd Bn., Kent Regiment (MG), N.P.A.N. (date unknown). Herbert would transfer from the Army to the Navy.

He enlisted in the RCNVR in May of 1942.

The Wallaceburg News of 1944 reported OS., V57265 Simpson, was stationed in the Effingham Block no.5 at HMCS Cornwallis, Deepbrook, NS where he was undergoing training.

Reported as Mentioned in Dispatches (MID). CDN 15/01/45.

Herbert passed away 20/05/1987.
