Private Franklynn R. Simmons left for overseas with the 33rd. Battalion March 17th, 1916, and was stationed at the Engineer Depot, Shorncliffe, until admitted to hospital June 21st, 1916. He received treatment until November 11th, 1916, and was transferred January 15th, 1917, as Sapper, to the 13th. Field Company, 5th. Division, Canadian Engineers, at Witley. He served from November 8th, 1917, at Bicester, Oxfordshire, and proceeded to France March 17th, 1918. He was transferred to the 6th. Battalion, Canadian Engineers, June 15th, 1918, serving until November 20th, 1918, when the battalion was sent to the base at Etaples, and returned to England December 20th, 1918. Private Simmons left for Canada January 29th, 1919, arriving at Halifax February 6th, 1919.
Sapper Franklynn R. Simmons received his discharge March 20th, 1919, as Medically unfit for further military service.
