While at Camp Borden 1/08/16 he came down with Influenza and recovered in four days.

Service the the 186th Bn. at Camp Borden June, 1916 to April July 1917. Departed Canada from Halifax NS., aboard S.S. Lapland. Arrived England (Liverpool) 7/04/17 

John had  been a L/Cpl. with the 186th Bn. at Camp Borden 29/07/16. 21/04/17 in France was holding the rank of Act. Sgt. He would revert to perm grade of Private, when he was KIA: 17/11/17 – Field. At Rouen

“Ref. Your tel. Dec. 1st he was killed by shrapnel piercing stomach at Passchendale, buried where he fell”
