Born in November 1922 in Chatham, ON., the daughter of Challis Bennett Sheldrick and Ida Emily (nee Clements) Sheldrick of Elwood Ave., Chatham, ON., sister of Janet Charlene (Barlow), Max (Paratroops) and Flt. Lieut. George Ivan “Happy”. CDN 24/11/22. Marilyn attended Central Public School and the Chatham Collegiate Institute.

Marilyn enlisted in the RCAF in April 1943. She did her basic training at Rockcliffe Station, Ottawa, then trained in signals and to be a telegraph operator in Ottawa and Winnipeg, Manitoba where she was promoted to a LAW. She was then posted to Mont Joli, PQ with # 7 Bombing and Training school.

In January of 1944 AW1. Sheldrick was stationed at Mont Joli, PQ where she was returning after a fourteen day furlough to her parents home for the holidays. CDN 11/01/44(P)

Marriage to Bruce Ralph Compton in Calgary, AL. CDN 2/05/44.  The CDN 29/04/44(P), reported that the wedding would take place May 1st at Mont Joli, Quebec.  Her  obituary appeared in the CDN 19/01/1985.

History After Enlistment… Received basic training at Rockcliffe. Took course in signals and telegraph operator at Ottawa. Posted to training command at Winnipeg, Man. and received the rank of L.A.W. Posted to Mont Joli, Que. at #7 Bombing and training school.

Date of Discharge… December 29th 1944
