Born in Chatham, ON. in 1924, the son of George and Gladys Shackleton. The husband of Dorothy (nee Farrell), father of Linda (Keech) and predeceased infant son Blake. CDN-Obt. 4/08/11.

He enlisted in London, Ontario.  Address at Enlistment:  Chatham, Ontario

Alvin enlisted in the RCAF 1 February, 1942. The CDN 16/02/43 reported that AC2 Shackleton attended a ‘farewell party’ before his departure for Manning Depot in Toronto. f3edxm

He trained at the Manning Depot, Toronto, TTS at St.Thomas and No.8 Bombing & Gunnery School at Lethbridge, AB. He was just 20 years old.  He was returning to Lethbridge, Alberta after a ten-day furlough.

The CDN 15/04/44 reported that Alvin had been home to see his parents Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Shackleton, of Cornhill St., Chatham he was their only son. Alvin graduated from McKeough School and C.C.I and the Canada Business School in Chatham.

Served overseas two years as part of ground crew. Promoted to the rank of LAC, and received the usual decorations. Was on Occupational Duty in England after war was over until May 1946.
