Born in 1914 the son of Mr. W. N. and Laura H. Sexsmith of 338 King St. W., Chatham, ON., brother of William D. R. (RCAF).  A graduate of the University of Toronto.

He enlisted with the C.A.T.C in March of 1942, trained at Petawawa, Gordon Head, BC., and Brockville, he served in Canada as a Lieutenant.  In December of 1942 Gunner Sexsmith was reported home on a brief furlough from Petawawa. After his furlough he was to proceed to British Columbia for an Officers Training Course. CDN 12/12/42  Lieut. E. R. Sexsmith stationed at Brockville, ON., was reported at his parents along with his brother Pte. William on a holiday leave.

Served in Canada. Promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. Columbie for an Officers Training Course.  Went overseas in March 1944, CDN 7/03/44 and 15/03/44(P) duty and served in England, Holland and Germany then back to England.  Ernest was home on furlough for Christmas 1944. CDN 5/01/44.

The CDN 26/12/45 reported that he returned to Canada aboard the S. S. Queen Elizabeth.
