Son of Mr. Fred and Mrs. Irene Schram of Thames Street, Chatham, ON. Bill attended Chatham Vocational School and is recorded in that school’s 1942 – 43 year book “Vocational Review”. His name also appears on the Ontario Steel Plants – Roll of Honour for WWII.   

William enlisted in 21 March, 1942 Appears on the “Muster Roll” of the 2nd Bn., Kent Regiment (MG), N.P.A.N. (date unknown) with service number A470225. He would have transferred to the RCAF in January of 1942. The CDN 17/05/43 reported in 17/05/43 that he enlisted in December 1941?   

He trained in Toronto Manning Depot at No. 1 I.T. S and in Windsor where he was stationed for a year as an instructor at the Elementary Flying School as AC2. (R158802) Bill was posted to No. 14 S.F.T.C. in Aylmer, ON. CDN 10/11/42

He graduated in March 1943 and received his commission at Alymer, ON.  He was stationed at Windsor for the Elementary Flying Training school. He was reported spending a week’s leave in Chatham with his parents.   The CDN 17/05/43(P) reported that he had received his “Wings” and Commission at No.14 S.F.T.S.- Alymer, ON., 19/03/43 and No. 7 E.F.T.S. at Windsor, ON. He had recently completed a course at the Elementary Flying School at Arnprior and would return to Windsor, ON.. for duties as an instructor.   He graduated in 1943 and received his commission at Alymer, ON. 

Bill was reported at RCAF-Windsor in February 1944 and was on a week’s leave to visit his parents in Chatham. CDN 2/02/44   CDN 2/02/44 Pilot Officer Schram, an instructor at Number 7, E.F.T.S., Windsor, ON. was home on a two weeks leave. CDN 19/04/44, and was promoted to flying officer. Pilot Officer Schram, an instructor at Number 7, E.F.T.S., Windsor, ON. was home on a two weeks leave. CDN 19/04/44, and was promoted to flying officer.

Posted for overseas duty he arrived in England in June. 

The CDN 8/06/44 reported that 21 year old F/O ‘Bill’ Schram was on duty overseas with the RCAF.   William arrived overseas in June of 1944. Promoted to Flt. Lieutenant 19/01/45. CDN 10/05/45(P).

Date of Discharge: May 8th 1946

William passed away 20 Dec. 2009 age of 86 years. P/O Schram was married to Donna (Guy) for 61 years and had three children Bonnie, Paul and Bob. Interment was at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham, ON.
