Sailed from Halifax NS aboard the S. S. Scuiam 8/08/16 CEF. 134th to 15th at age 22yrs – Halifax aboard the S.S.Aquitania. Disembarked : England at Liverpool 19/08/16 – To 15th Bn. Joined unit 2/11/16. 27/10/17 granted a 14 day leave – Ret. 17/11/17 – Sick – to Red Cross Hospital Sick 6/12/17. 9/03/18 L/Cpl. – 5/10/18 and made Corporal – Served in FRANCE w/ 15th Batt.

With 134th CEF – Highlander 1/01/1916 to Jul. 1916 unit sailed 8/08/1916. W/15th Bn. to France 10/10/16 of Ridgetown.   

Lance Corporal G. Leslie Scherer arrived in England in August 1916, and proceeded to France October 1916. He took part in the engagement at Vimy Ridge in April 1917 and at Hill 70 in August 1917, when, August 1917, he received a slight shrapnel wound in the left hand, and was awarded the Military Medal for conspicuous bravery. He served near Amiens in August 1918, and before Cambrai in September 1918, when he was awarded the Bar  to the Military  Medal. September 2nd, 1918, he received a bullet shot wound in the right arm; was admitted to Hospital September 3rd; was returned to England September 19th; and was discharged from Hospital December 1918. He returned to Canada in January 1919.

Orpington 30/10/18 – Disc. 6/12/18 promoted to Cpl. 13/08/18 Adm. 4th Gen. 21 Camiers 4/09/18 GSW. RIGHT Arm.    

Reported wounded in Sept. 1918.

(1) Had pneumonia Nov. 1917 To Rome, admitted to the Sisters of Mary. Recovered for five weeks – No disability. (2) On active service in FRANCE 2/18/18 – GSW Rt. Arm – Fractured hermus – Cont. – Fracturing hermus – admitted to King George Hospital for treatment (GSW R. Arm – VIII fracture Humerus. Good result and no disability. 2-Scars 4” long at right arm and one Scar 5” long post surface – right arm received on active service 2/09/18.

Arv. in England aboard the Scotian – TOS – FIELD: 19/10/18. 12/01/18 “Military Medal “ – received Bar, Gallent Service. Embarked 24/01/19 

Lance Corporal G. Leslie Scherer received his discharge February 17th, 1919 at London, Ontario, due to demobilization.
