April to May 1916 – Unit Saied 23/04/16. Arrived in the 18th Bn. Cdn. Inf. In France Date of Service 10/08/16. Arv. In England 5/05/16. TOS 11/07/16, Woodcote Park.
7/10/16 James was received a GSW to his shoulder. Hospitized at Newcastle on Tyne Pte. Savage was admitted at Northumberland War Hospital, Gosforts, England. TOS 11/07/16 to 21/10/16 TOS- 29/11/16 C.C.H – Woodcote Park – Epson England – Discharged.
3/06/17 reported at Hasting Sussex. 13/11/17 S.A.H.S. was buried by a German shell explosion, 26/11/17 Admitted to No.1 South African Hospital – (Abberville) – where he was also gassed. “He received a gaping wound 2 ½ X1 ¾ with a lot of dirt. X-Ray could find no fractures – from wounds on the 30th Sept. ay Coureelette while going to the firing line above the sunken road.” His wound healed – No Disability found. Transferred to the 39th Batt to the 18th .
Private James E. Savage left London for overseas April 21st, 1916, and crossed to France about July 15th, attached to the Battalion. He was wounded in the Battle of the Somme September 30th, and admitted to Northumberland War Hospital, England, October 7th. he returned to France April 25th, 1917, and at Passchendaele, November 11th, 1917, was buried by shell explosion, being admitted to Hospital at offeville, he returned to his unit about July 15th 1918, was in several engagements until November 11th when the Armistice was signed, crossed to Germany with the Army of Occupation and returned to England with his unit about the 1sat of May 1919, arrived in London Ontario May 24th 1919
17/01/18 with 5th Cdn. – Cayeux, France. Discharge to Base 15/03/18. 70th Bn. served in England and France – Proc. To discharge:- Demob: 24/05/1919 at London, ON. DISCHARGED 24/05/19.
James was discharged from the service 24/05/1919. He returned to Windsor, ON. after the war.
Due to his wounds it was advised that he get a job outside however due to the limited jobs available he took a job at the Ford plant.
