Son of George R. and Marie (nee Beam) Salisbury, of Chatham, Ontario, Canada. Robert was born in Dover Twsp., but was living in Chatham and working at a local grocery store before enlisting in 1942. He had two brothers, Edward and Ronald and a sister Barbara living at home.
Robert enlisted in the army at London, ON., in 1942.
Mrs. Marie Salisbury of Fletcher received “official notice” that her eldest son Robert age 19 years had been killed on 1 Sept., 1944 while serving with a Fusilier regiment in Italy. He had been overseas since the beginning of 1944.
The CDN 12/10/44 reported that he met his death during a night attack and was buried close to the spot where he fell.
He had been overseas since the beginning of 1944. According to the regimental padre Pt. Salisbury had been through some of the toughest battles of the regiment and he was a good soldier and a fine comrade.
