Born in 1918, the son of Thomas Edward and Hannah (nee Wood) Rylett of 129 Ursuline St., Chatham but Clarence grew up on Richmond St. His wife Mary (Sereda) was living on No. 2 Highway when he returned from overseas. They had two children Thomas and Sherry.  Prior to his enlistment he was employed at the Libby McNeil and Libby of Canada Ltd. CDN 15/09/44(P)    

Clarence enlisted 22 Feb.1943 at Windsor, OMN.  He went overseas in August of 1943 serving in the Ordnance Corps. After arriving in England he transferred to  the Essex Scottish and went to France with the Scottish. He was reported as MIA 21 July, 1944. The last letter that his wife received was dated 18 July and said he had seen action and was in the best of health. CDN Aug. 44 

He went overseas in August of 1943 serving with the Essex Scottish and was taken a POW in July of 1944. He was liberated by Allied forces and repatriated to Canada arriving in Chatham 23 June, 1945. CDN 22/06/45(P).  The CDN 22/06/45 reported that he was arriving the morning of the 22nd in London, ON. and in Chatham that evening.  Finally arrived in Chatham 23 June, 1945. CDN 22/06/45(P). Clarence was discharged from the Army 23 June, 1945.

Clarence passed away in 1981 in Chatham, ON.
