Resident Blenheim

Born 18/04/1892 at Blenheim, ON. The son of James and Laura Minerva (nee Burk). Wilfrid was educated in Blenheim and attended the University of Toronto in order to become a doctor.

He enlisted in 1915 with the CAMC and he was sent to No.2 Casualty Clearing Station (CCS) at Shorncliffe Military Hospital. He returned to Canada to complete his medical education, and he graduated in 1916. He returned to the army and was assigned to the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) and sent to Mesoptania, attached to the Indian Expeditionary Force.

In 1917, Captain Rutherford returned to England to attend the School of Tropical Medicine at Liverpool for service in Africa. He was made Officer, commanding the camp at Blackpool, England until being transferred to East Africa. His stay was not long, as he was returned to England as he was suffering from Typhoid and Malaria in 1918. He was returned to Canada in 1919 when he was discharged due to demobilization.

In 1920, Dr. Rutherford crossed the Atlantic to go to Edinburgh University in Scotland for post-graduate courses. He married Isobel Grace (nee Cameron). They returned to Canada and Dr. Rutherford opened a general Practice in Sarnia, ON. They had two sons (one in the RCAF and one in the Navy) and two daughters.

During WWII, Captain Rutherford was stationed in London, ON. at Wosley Barracks as the Officer Commanding RCAMC.
