Private Edwin James Rowe left for overseas with the 33rd Battalion March 17th, 1916, arriving in England March 25th. Six weeks later he proceeded to France, transferring to the 7th Brigade Trench Mortar Battery. September 16th, 1916, on the Somme, Private Rowe received gun-shot wounds causing a fractured thigh. He was admitted to hospital in Manchester, England, and returned to Canada in May 1917. He received hospital treatment in Guelph and Toronto; was given his discharge but due to further trouble with his thigh he was reattested and given hospital treatment at Guelph.
Private Edwin James Rowe received his discharge December 27th, 1917, was reattested, and received his final discharge September 20th, 1918, being medically unfit for further military service.
