Service # A21896
Unit # US Army DOAS 1944, Essex Scottish Regt.

Found in the McKay’s Corner Women’s Institute Book at the Kent OGS Room, C-K Library, Chatham, ON.

The son of  Cpl. and Mrs. Thomas A. (Essex Scottish) Rossell; brother of Murray also in the Essex Scottish.

Arthur was attached to the Headquarters company of the Essex Scottish that stormed the beach at Dieppe along with Cpl. Russell Case. There had been no indication of Arthur status after the raid until a ‘Air-Graph’ arrived at the family home with the message “Safe after Dieppe” from Arthur much to the relief of his mother. “She had waited in anxiety – the anxiety only a mother can know”, so read the CDN 9/0/942.
