Born in 1924, in Camden Township, the son of Beverly and Mildred Richards of Dresden, ON. The youngest son of Beverly and Mildred Richards of Hughes St., Dresden, ON. The brother Gerald who was serving in France. Brother Charles in England, he had two sisters Mrs. Roy Doris of Pontiac, Mich. And Marion at home. Prior to his enlistment he was working on the family farm.
Garland enlisted in September of 1942 at the age of 18 years with the Perth Regiment, R.C.I.C. He went overseas with the Perth Regt. in March 1942. DT 28/09/44 He saw service in Sicily and Italy, serving as No.1 on a Bren Gun, 7 section, 12 platoon in B Company. (Bill Siddall-Perth Regt. website)
Private Garland Richards was killed in action in Italy September 13, 1944.
