Dear Charles:
We have gathered here tonight to spend a few hours together, enjoying your company, before you leave us to return to the Army Camp. We have missed you since you have been away and it has been pleasant to have you with us again, but we want you to know that we appreciate what you are doing as you offer yourself to be of service for your King and Country.
We ask to accept this gift as a slight token of our esteem for you hoping as you wear it you may have pleasant memories of your friends at home. We trust that you will have good health and that you will return to us soon with the war all over, and victory won

Dear Charles:
It is with a feeling of pride as well as regret that we, your friends and neighbours have gathered to-night in your honor.
We are proud that you have answered your country’s call like a man and realize that it is for us that you are offering your services as a soldier. At the same time we cannot forget that parting and the thought comes to us with a feeling of regret, but we must look beyond that, and see only a joyous return.
We hope that every blessing and good luck due to a loyal soldier of the King may be yours and want you to feel that we are following you with our prayers and good wishes.
As a token of appreciation we ask you to accept this watch not for it’s value but express as best it can our love and interest in our “Laddie in Khaki”
