Private Richards served in the heavy tank unit in an African desert campaign under Field Marshall Montgomery. After the defeat of Romnel, Sargent Richards was returned to his Canadian Army Unit. He received United States decorations awarded for his North Africa service and in addition he received 2 Stars for the attachment to this US decoration.
