Regimental Number: 189730, DOB: 20/05/1895. Ref: RG 150, Accession 1992-93/ 166, Box: 8224-24, Item: 602223, PDF: B8224-SO24. Present address: Dresden, ON. Born at Dresden, Kent Co. Next of kin: George A. Rice of Dresden (father). Walter was a brick maker by trade. Had served with the 24th Kents. Attestation: 31/12/1915 at St. Thomas to the 91st Batt. CEF.

Age at enlistment 20 yrs. 7 mths. Height: 5’ 8 ½ “, Girth: 35”, Complexion: Clear, Eyes: Blue, Hair: Light. 1915 Dec. to February transferred to the the 186th o/s Batt. 28/02/16. He had been living at 858 Windsor Ave., Windsor, ON. 

Private Walter A. Rice enlisted in 91st Battalion Dec 31st 1915 later being transferred to 186th Battalion. After training in Canada proceeded overseas with that unit in March 1917, then crossed into France Nov 1917 and joined the 18th Battalion. He served with that unit until he was wounded in Aug 1918 and was sent to hospital in England. He sailed for Canada Dec 1918.

Departed from Halifax aboard the S.S. Lapland 25/03/17. Debarked in England at Liverpool 7/04/17. TOS with the 4th Batt. at Bramshott and arrived in France 18/11/17. TOS in ‘FIELD’ 22/11/17to the 18th Batt. Reported in the ‘Field’ 8/12/17.

He was treated at Connaught, Aldershot – Cdn Military Hospital to Bramshot Hospital for VDG, 6/05/17 to 19/06/17. Walter was reported entering Military Hospital –Bramshott 11/07/17 for treatment for Gonorrhoea 

Walter suffered a GSW to the left buttock on 8/08/1918 and was treated for the flesh wound 15/08/18. He was moved to Admission at Le Trepa 15/08/18  He was sent to the Remedial Treatment Gymnasium at Princess Canadian –Cdn Red Cross Hospital He was admitted 26/08/18 for the GSW admitted 26/08/18 and he removed. After two months he was discharged No Disability. 

Walter embarked for Canada. 16/01/19.  His Discharge Certificate, France W/ 18th Batt. Discharged at London ON.  Discharged at London Jan 30th 1919 due to demobilization.
