Attestation: 7 August, 1940, at Chatham, ON. to the Kent Regt. According to his Discharge Certificate [copy], he served in England, Sicily/Italy, France and Germany.
L/Cpl. Donald left to rejoin the First Kents at New Westminister, BC. on the same day his brother Lloyd, also with the First Kents arrived on a leave. CDN 25/06/42 It was reported in the CDN 20/06/42 that a romance that started on the east coast “came to a happy ending on 18 June, 1942 in the rectory of St. Joseph’s Church in Chatham with the marriage of L/Cpl. Donald A. Reissner and Miss Mary MacDonald of Halifax, NS. The couple had time for only a short honeymoon before L/Cpl. Reissner had to leave to rejoin his regiment stationed in New Westminister.
Lance Corporal Reissner trained in Chatham, London, Halifax, Niagara-on-the-Lake and New Westminster. He was transferred to the Perth Regiment and went overseas in 1943, was reported serving in Italy in 1944. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant in 1944 then was sent to France in 1945 and then on to Holland. He also served in Belgium. Not wounded.
He was honourably discharged 19/01/1946, returning to “Civil Life”.
