Born 12/01/1924 in Chatham, ON.   The son of Mr. James A. Reid and Edith Reid of the R.R. No. 4, Chatham, River Road, Harwich Twsp., Kent Co., ON. The husband of Jean Catherine. The father of Shannon and Jan.

Enlisted at HMCS Hunter, Windsor, ON. A photograph from the Windsor Star of November, 1942 shows 27 enlistments preparing to leave Windsor for Prince Edward Island for further training, includes Robert.   It was reported that Robert was on his way back to Charlottetown, PEI. CDN 31/12/42. 

Another photo of sixty two enlistments at HMCS Cornwallace “early” 1943 having completed their training also includes Robert now an anti-aircraft gunner.

Robert was drafted to HMCS Red Deer, a minesweeper sailing out of Halifax, NS. It was assigned to convoy escort duty from Sydney NS. to St. John, Newfoundland.

The CDN 4/05/44 reported that AB Reid was home on a twenty-eight day furlough from the west coast. He was spending his furlough with his parents.

In July of 1944 he was sent to Digby, NS. for more anti-aircraft gunnery training. In the fall of 1944 he was put on “special duty” for medical reasons and was then discharged for medical reason in April of 1945.

Proudly served in the Royal Canadian Navy during WWII 

Robert was employed at the Chatham Hydro for thirty-eight years. 

Robert passed away 31 December, 2016 at the age of 92 years old. Interment in the Arnold Cemtery. CDN-Obit [unknown]
