Pilot Officer Frank Reed was born in Romney Township, Kent. He was aboard the Royal Canadian Air Force plane Canso 09816 and it had been badly damaged by a u-boat, after the aircraft attacked and sank the submarine. The Canso was forced to ditch in the North sea and the crew took to their dinghy. P/O Reed died of exposure June 13, 1944. He left behind a wife and daughter. He is buried in the New Cemetery, Lerwick, Shetland Islands, Scotland.
