Private Louis J. Reaume went overseas with the 70th Battalion April 31st, 1916, proceeding to France June 4th, 1916, transferring to the P.P.C.L.I. He received wounds October 31st, 1918, being admitted to Epsom Hospital, and upon recovery continued training at Seaford.

Tilburyite Reported Wounded at the Front Last Month
“A telegram was received from the Ottawa War Office on Monday that Private Louis Reaume, infantry, was officially reported admitted to no. 11 Field Ambulance on Oct. 31 from a gunshot wound in the left arm. He is aged 23, and enlisted here in the 70th Batt. In Oct. 1915 and left for the front on April 31st 1916, and has been in the trenches 17 months with his broter Charles who enlisted at the same time. A third brother James, enlisted in the 1st Hussars last spring, and landed in England last month. They are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. William Reaume of this place.

Tilbury Wounded Returning
“Word received Monday that Louis Reaume of this place, who left here with the 70th Battalion last year has been in the trenches 17 months has been sent home. His left arm from the elbow down is helpless from his wound. His brother Charles who left with him is also wounded and is expected back as well. A third brother James in now on his way to France.

Disire of Tilbury Soldier is for Big Meal.
The following is an extract from a letter received by Wm. Reaume from his son Sapper Louis J. Reaume, who is with the Princess Pats in Belgium. The letter was dated 19 November.
“No doubt you people at home are gald to hear that the war is over. Certainly I amd well pleased and I cannot get home quick enough. Saw brother Jim today and he is looking fine and happy. He is leaving here in a couple of days for Germany. I wish I were going along with him to enjoy the trip and see the country. I have not seen brother Charlie who is with a machine gun section, for a year, but Jim say him the other day and he was fine. One thing I want you to do is to get a big meal ready for me when I get home.”
After the war Sonny would return to Tilbury marry Mary (1974) and they would have two children Lucille (Michelin) and Donald.
Louis (Sonny) Reaume passed away Friday 20 February, 1981 at the age of 87 years with interment at St. Francis Cemetery, Tilbury. TT 25/02/81.
