Two Tilbury Heroes Given a Fitting Reception.
“Private James Reaume and Private Charles Reaume, brothers of this place returned Tuesday [May 17th] from overseas. They both participated in the march to Germany, and were given a rousing reception at the M.C.R. [Michigan Central Railway] depot by a large and enthusiastic crowd, accompanied by the Tilbury band.
James Reaume, who is aged 23, left with the 1st Hussars from London, Ontario on July 10, 1917 and was transferred to the 4th Reserves at Bramshott Camp, England and from there to the 1st Canadian Infantry Battalion. He fought in the trenches up to last summers advance, and was at Amiens, Arras and Cambria going “over the top” nine times in three months. He came through without a scratch and is in the best of health, and among his souvenirs he has an Iron Cross of the second class captured from a dead German. The boys desire to extend their cordial thanks for their warm welcome tendered them.
