Resident Pain Court

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Reaume of Pain Court, Dover Twsp., Kent Co. ON., Elmer had two sisters Dorothy and Betty and brothers Francis and Billy.

The CDN 28/08/44 reported that his parents received word that their son was missing in France.

“The Minister of National Defence deeply regrets to inform you that Pte. Elmer Percival Reaume has been officially reported missing in action 21 July, [1944]. When further information becomes available it will be forwarded as soon as received.”

Elmer was 21 years of age when he went overseas about two years ago with the Essex Scottish. The family had received a letter from their son dated 19 July that he was serving in a Medical section of the regiment.  A Mrs. Bagnall, a neighbor had received a letter from her son Raymond, serving with the same unit dated 25 July. His letter stated Elmer and a number of other men had sought refuge from “the heavy fire in a building. When Pte. Bagnell returned the building had been hit, the door was open and the windows smashed but there was no trace of the men.” This did his parents some hope that he was still alive and safe.

The CDN 13/09/44 reported that their son, who was reported as MIA on 21 July, was in fact a POW in Germany. At the time Elmer was serving in the RCAMC.

The CDN 11/06/45 reported that he had returned from overseas.
