Born 12/02/1918 at Sombra Twsp., Lambton Co., ON. Son of Peter and Marguerite (nee Wark) Raymond of Wallaceburg; brother of John (RCAF), Myrtle, Edna, Gerta and Earl. Educated at S.S. #12 Sombra and Wallaceburg High School.

Prior to the war Fred signed on the sand and gravel vessel “C. W. Cadwell” in 1939, transferring to a package freighter the “Ralph Budd” that plied the upper Great Lakes in September of 1939.   He was with the Esso – Marine Division – Imperial Oil tanker “Victoria”.

With the outbreak of war in 1940 and in Montreal, PQ., he sailed on the M.S. “Eletra Walker” making two Atlantic crossings in 1940. In September of 1940, Fred signed on the Imperial Oil tanker “Vicolite” making eight trips from Halifax to Guira, Venezuela. On 2/02/1942 the Victoile departed Halifax making another passage to Venezuela in ballast for another load of diesel oil. M.V. Victolite (Victoria). Torpedoed by U 564 at 36.12 N – 67.14 W, on 11 February there were no survivors of the crew of forty six.
