Born in 1922 at Mitchell’s Bay, Kent Co., ON. The son of Carrie Irene (Winter) and Clifford ‘Jim’ Rankin, the brother of Elaine (Legue) and Clifford. The husband of Ruby Ellen (nee Boyer), the father of Carol (Knight).

Carl enlisted in July of 1942 at the time he was living at “Daniel’s Place”. Carl was reported home on a week end leave in July of 1942. CDN 29/07/42. Joining the RCNVR he served in the North Atlantic, served in the naval unit during the Normandy Invasion 6/06/44 and saw action in the Pacific Theatre.  The Wallaceburg News reported that AB. Rankin who had been stationed at Charlston had left for overseas.

The WN 15/07/43 reported that Carl was home on a 28 day furlough to visit with his mother.

The WN 20/08/44 reported that Carl had arrived at the East Coast. The CDN 12/08/44 reported that Able Seaman Carl Rankin  and Miss Ruby Ellen (nee Boyer) were wed in the parsonage of Park St. United Church. A wedding reception was held at the brides home on King St., Chatham. The couple left on a honeymoon.

He had gone overseas in November of 1943 and has seen action aboard HMCS Gladsgow. AB. Rankin was reported in the WN 31/08/44 leaving Mitchell’s Bay fro the West Coast to resume his duties there.

Carl passed away 27/11/1973 at the Sydenham District Hospital after a two month illness. Internment in Owen’s Cemetery, Dover Twsp., Kent Co., ON. CDN 29/11/73.
