Pte. John Fred Pogson trained in Essex with the 99th Battalion until May 1st, 1916, when the unit moved to London to continue training, going overseas May 28th. He proceeded to France in August, 1916, and April 8th,1917 was hit by shrapnel, breaking his leg and wounding his arm. He was treated at Westminster and Orpington Hospitals, and returned to Canada December 19th, 1917, arriving at St. Johns December 28th, 1917.
