The son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Pierce of Wallaceburg, ON. He attended Wallaceburg Central and High School. After which he worked at the Schultz Plant and with his father who had a farm implement business.
The Wallaceburg News 1/08/40 reported that William along with Bill Hancock and Max Phoenix had left the Kiltie Band where he played the clarinet, to join the active enlistments. Bill enlisted with the Essex Scottish at Windsor, ON. in July 1940, along with Bill and Max.
The CDN 23/05/41 reported that William was stationed at Camp Borden.
He went overseas with the Regiment in June 1942. Bill had spent four months hospitalized in England not far from london and was often shaken by the explosion of the ‘robot bombs’ (V-1 and V-2).
William returned to Canada aboard the Hospital Ship Lady Nelson and was in Westminister hospital in London, ON., He had been visited by his brother Jim. WN (date unknown) The CDN 21/08/44 reported that Pte. Pierce had arrived in Chatham. The WN 23/03/44 reported that Bdmn. Pierce was serving on ‘active duty’.
William passed away 13 January, 1993 at the age of 77 years old.
