Son of Thomas Pickering Blenheim. A single farmer living in Blenheim. Attestation: 29/02/1915 at Chatham, ON. to 186th Bn.Buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Blenheim, ON.
Pte. Ira E. Pickering went overseas with the 186th Battalion. March 26th, 1917, and after training at Bramshott proceeded to France September 5th, transferring to the 18th Battalion. He had the misfortune to sprain his ankle Aug 26th 1918 and was sent to V.A.D. Hospital at Rockferry Cheshire where he stayed for two months and then went to Epsom Con Hos, then to Whitley to the C.C.D. He sailed for Canada on the S.S. Empress of Asia through the Panama Canal and landed at Vancouver Jan 28th 1919.
Discharged Feb 1919 due to demobilization.
Ira served overseas in the 18th Battalion in France. He was gassed leaving him with heart problems and this attributed to his early death 29 October, 1924.
