Born in Decatur, Illinois 12 March, 1926. The son of Cecil and Beatrix (nee Walley) Phelps. The family moved to Baddertown, in Tilbury East Twsp. to live on his grandfather’s farm not far from Merlin. The brother of Margaret (Gilbeault) and Robert.

Maurice served in the US Navy during WWII. After the war he married Ada (nee Gifford) and they had two children Dan and Kathy (Steel). Ada passed away in 2008.

After the war he worked as a tool and die maker at Russell Tool & Die in Chatham, ON. After retiring he a woodworker and enjoyed travelling.

Maurice passed away at his residence 3 December, 2015 at 89 years, internment at the Stewart Cemetery.
