The son of Mr. and Mrs. Byron Parker of Erieau, ON.  He attended school both in Erieau and Blenheim. Prior to his enlistment he was employed as a fireman on the S. S. Alexander Leslie. He was also a star and played on the Erieau hockey team.

It was reported in the CDN Dec. 1942 [date unknown] that Stoc. Parker was engaged to Miss Evelyn Marie (nee Cox) and a wedding was planned “to take place shortly.”

The CDN 2/04/43 reported he was stationed at Halifax . His brother Jack was at London and Don, had just arrived overseas. All of the brothers were Stockers.

The CDN 11/07/44 Reported that he was the only enlistment from Erieau serving.

From Blenheim, ON. Husband of Evelyn Marie (Cox) married 19/12/1942, father of Bonnie, Susan, Carol and Linda. Gord was featured in the BNT 14/11/12(P) in a picture of the Erieau Remembrance Day service 2012.

The BNT reported 18/06/03 on the story of Gordon’s visit to the opening of the Juno Beach memorial. On the 1st of June. Gordon along with other invited veterans were flown to France, he was surprised at how many Chatham and Kent men were aboard that flight. They were taken to Paris and from there bused to Cannes. The group was then taken on a five day tour of France, including tours of military cemetery’s. They arrived at Juno Beach for the ceremony of the dedication of the memorial to the men who served there.

“It was a awesome sight to see 43,000 poppies being dropped from planes, falling like red snowflakes everywhere.”
