Signaller Percy A. Pardo obtained his first class certificate as Signaller while training in Canada, and went overseas with the 186th Battalion March 28th, 1917. He also qualified as Signaller at Shoreham, England, and proceeded to France December 8th, 1917, attached to the 1st Battalion Head Quarters Signals.

His first time in the trenches was at Lens and was moved from there to Hill 70 taking part in that engagement. The 1st and 2nd Div Canadians were put on as Flying Column and moved from place to place to fill in any weak spots, the 1st trip to the Somme and from there right back to Arras, he was present at the very heavy attacks that were made on that part of the line and helped to carry out Lieutenant Wallace Taylor after he was wounded.

He remained on this front until the 8th of Aug when he was moved to Amiens and took part in the Crow’s Nest, Canal du Nord and Cambrai. He was under shell fire at Hasnon just before the Armistice was signed.

On Armistice Day the 1st Brigade was inspected by Gen Currie at Pecquencourt and on the 18th started the joy walk to Germany as part of the Army of Occupation and remained near the City of Cologne until Jan 7th 1919 when he returned to Belgium. Left for England April 22nd 1919 Sailed for Canada on the 1st July and arrived July 11th.

Discharged at London July 12th, 1919 due to demobilisation.
