Born 18/09/1917 in Hulk, Czechoslovakia the son of John and May (nee Riha) Palanack. The family emigrated to Canada in 1927 when Frank was nine years old. He had two brothers John Jr. of Eberts and Anthony a Flying Officer who was KIA over Germany.,   He was educated in Czechoslovakia doing his high school in Dresden, ON. at the Continuation School there and Chatham Collegiate Institute in Chatham. The brother of John and Anthony ‘Tony’.

He graduated MD from Queen’s University in 1943 interning at St. Joseph Hospital, London, ON.

Prior to his enlistment he was living at Turnerville, Chatham Twsp. Kent Co., ON. Enlisting in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corp serving two years overseas at No.13 Canadian Casualty Clearing Station in the south of England. Capt. Palanek received wounded from the D-Day landing in Normandy. Wounded arriving with only first-aid would be operated on as soon as possible. There were many men requiring attention and Capt. Palanek worked around the clock for three days with little sleep and soup and sandwiches.

Enlisting in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corp serving two years overseas at No.13 Canadian Casualty Clearing Station in England as well as serving in Belgium and Holland, serving four years in total.

Later he did service serving in Belgium and Holland. He served four years in total. The good doctor served at No.13 Cda. General Hospital, No.23 Cdn. General Hospital and No.3 Cdn Casualty Clearing Station.

He married Lillian Mary (nee Lacina) and they had two children, Robert John and Corenna Elizabeth.

In 1946 Dr. Palanek established a General Practice at 147 Thames St., Chatham, ON. He served as the the Cononer for Kent County, ON. until 1963. Dr. Palanek studied Dermatology in the USA and in Toronto. He had a Masters in surgery.      

Dr. Frank G. Palanek passed away 9 September, 1983 at the age of 67 years old., interment in St. Anthony’s Cemetery – Chatham, ON. His wife Lillian passed away 22 August, 2017 in Chatham, ON. CDN 24/08/17
