Sgt. Overholt served with the Royal Canadian Engineers during WW2. He was the son of Charlie Overholt – WW1. On his 2nd day in France his comrade was KIA beside him by Allied Bombers. In 1945 he helped build the Bailey Bridge that crossed the Rhine. Bert was born in Wheatley in 1922 and died in 2019 [97 years old]. He was awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal and the Knight of the Legion of Honour Medal – France. He was a Life member of the Wheatley Legion. Bert was our last Wheatley combat veteran.
