Served in Canada. Promoted to the rank of Sergeant Pilot, and received the C.V.S. medal.

On 2 January, 1943 he was at Tarmac, Alberta 1/04/43  and No.7 I.T.S., Saskatoon where he gained his LAC. The CDN 20/05/43 reported that he had left for Edmonton to commence his training. 12 June, 1943 he trained at No.19 E.F.T.S , then to Verden, Manitoba, 8/08/43 at No. 7 S.F.T.S at McLeod AB., where he received his wings 25/11/43.

The CDN 2/12/43 reported LAC O’Rourke of RCAF Saskatoon was home on furlough at his home on Dover Street, Chatham. He was granted his Pilot Officer promotion 1 December, 1943. Not quite ready he took a General Reconnaissance course at Charlottetown PEI in February 1944.
