Lawrence married Helen (nee Conway) and they had three children; Larry Jr., Jane and Tom. She and the children were living in Huntsville, ON. Lawrence was a barrister in Chatham before his enlistment. He was a member of the firm of Kerr, McNevin, Gee and O’Connor in Chatham
Cpl. O’Connor a former Olympic hurdler before the war, placed second in the 100 and 200 yard dashes and ran the 120 yard hurdles in 15.3 seconds, out classing the rest of the field at the military track and field champions his in Toronto. CDN 17/08/42(P). Lieut. O’Connor was appointed in charge of sports in the Canadian Army in England.
Trained in Canada one year. Posted for overseas duty and served in England, Normandy and France. Was wounded in the right arm while serving in France. Received the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Medal and the C.V.S.Medal.
The CDN 26/07/44 reported that Lieut. O’Connor had been WIA in France on 15/07/44. He had gone to France on 4 July as a reinforcement to the invasion forces. The CDN 25/10/44 reported that Lieut. O’Connor had been wounded in the right arm. He was among other wounded officers. It was expected that Larry would undergo treatment in Canada before his return to Chatham. It was expected that he would rejoin the law firm he left for the Army.
Date of Discharge: March 20th, 1945
Larry was reported back in Chatham in the CDN 27/03/45.
Lawrence passed away in September 1995.
