The son of Mrs. Ward A. of 143 Park St., Chatham, ON. He married to Ruby (nee Carey) of 97 Joseph St., Chatham, ON. Prior to his enlistment he was a shipping clerk with the P.M. Railway.

Robert enlisted 19/06/43 in Windsor, ON. He trained at Number 12 BTC – Chatham and at Camp Bordon. He was sent overseas in July of 1943. Robert would be wounded in France one week after landing in France. The CDN 7/09/44 reported that Pte. O’Brien was reported recuperating from his wounds received in Normandy.
