Private Nicol was a member of the Howitzer Brigade (Volunteers), Greenock, Scotland for about two years.
He mobilised at Valcartier, Quebec Sept. 22, 1914, and left for overseas on the S.S. Laurentic Sept. 29.
He proceeded to France Feb. 8, 1915, serving with the 1st Canadian Battalion until June 15 when he was killed in action.
