Sergeant William Cummins Nichols enlisted with the American Army December 26th, 1913, serving for a short time at Columbus, Ohio, and later with the 14th Cavalry at the Mexican Border. In the winter of 1918 he transferred for overseas service, proceeding to France in April 1918, as Sergeant “A” Co. Headquarters Trains and Military Police, 5th Division. He went into Germany with the Army of Occupation.
