Private Nelson enlisted with the 33rd battalion and transferred shortly after to the 18th battalion arriving in England in May 1915.
He trained at Sandling Camp until Sept. 1915, when he proceeded to France drafted to the 1st Battalion.
While eating supper in the trenches, Oct. 13, he was killed instantly by shrapnel.
