In 1939 Gerald was a teacher at the Rosedale Public School in Tilbury East Twsp., Kent Co., ON. and more recentltly at the Bloomfield school on Highway No.2 when he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Regiment where he had previously served. It was reported that Gerald was feted at the home of Miss Marjory and John Fletcher and presented with a shaving kit. CDN 5/10/39.
