Born in 1921 at St. Thomas, ON. The son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Arthur Neil of 126 Stanley St., Chatham, ON. The husband of Lenore, (nee Klopher) they were also living at 126 Stanley Ave., Chatham. The father of son Pat.
George enlisted in August, 1941, joining the staff of BTC No.12 serving there eighteen months. He moved to active service training at Camp Ipperwash and Brockville, where he received his commission at Brockville in April 1943. He went overseas as a reinforcement officer with the Perth Regt., transferred to the Algonquin Regt. as a Lieut. CDN-Jul. 44
Served on the Staff of # 12 B.T.C. for eighteen months, as a Corporal. Subsequently he trained at Ipperwash and Brockville and received his Commission in April 1943. Went overseas as a reinforcement Officer for the Perth Regiment and later transferred to the Algonquins. Was slightly wounded by shrapnel fragment in the upper arm. Saw action in France, Holland, Belgium and Germany. He was reported wounded in the upper arm by shrapnel 3/03/45. A cable arrived at the family home on 7/03/45 confirming his wounding.
He was reported returning from overseas aboard the S.S. Mauretania reported in the CDN 31/12/45 as arriving 1/01/46.
Arrived aboard the S.S. Mauritania from overseas docked at Halifax NS. 1 January, 1946.
George was discharged from the army 22/01/1946.
