Born 8/11/1913 in Sumersworth, New Hampshire, USA. The family had been living in Wallaceburg for about twenty years The only son of Joseph and Hermanise (Cousineau) Nadeau of 239 King St. South, Wallaceburg, ON. He had three sisters Mrs. Charles Deighton, Mrs. Arthur Ford both of Wallaceburg and Miss Rose at home. Armand was educated at Our Lady of Help School in Wallaceburg. Prior to enlisting Armand was working for the Dominion Glass Co. in Wallaceburg for about 15 years.
Armand enlisted in Chatham, ON. 13/08/1940 in the 1st Kent Regt. He trained in Chatham at BTC # 12, then London, ON., New Westminister and Terrace, BC. before going overseas with the RCR 13/02/1943.
A letter had been received from one of his pals, writing from Sicily that he had visited Pt. Nadeau in hospital with another boy from the regiment and “that though ‘Frenchie’ (as he was popularly known there) was pretty well cut up but would be alright”. His mother also held out hope from a dream that she had on the night of 25 July. “She awoke from sleep crying and told of a dream she had in which she saw her son with his head bandaged. He said in the dream “I’m Coming home.”
Sadly Mr. and Mrs. Nadeau did not receive word from Ottawa until the middle of August that their son was KIA overseas 25 July. WN 19/08/43
Pte. Nadeau was killed in Sicily while scaling a wall, presumably with the 1st Royal Canadian Regt. then in Sicily.
