The son of Arthur James Moyes of 31 Scane St., Chatham and the husband of Violet May Irene Fournier, serving with the CWAC.
Served with the Kent Regiment prior to going overseas.
He served a total of four years part of which was in Italy from August 15th, 1943 to June 1944. He was wounded in Italy February 1 1944. Attached to the Regimental Signalers all through campaign.
Promoted to the rank of Corporal and received the Efficiency Medal and usual Ribbons.
A surprise reunion took place at the home of Arthur Moyes. He had returned from London where he was visiting his daughter who was in a London hospital. He found a note upon his return telling him that a telegram was waiting for him at the telegraph office. He phoned the office only to find it closed which meant waiting until the morning for the good or bad news. His son Arthur had already been WIA. He was very tired and anxious when he went to bed. However the first thing he saw in the morning was his son’s equipment on the floor and Arthur sound asleep on the bed. CDN 21/08/44(P). Cpl. Moyes was reported in the CDN 13/10/44 having been decorated with the Canadian Efficiency medal.
He had been serving with the British 8th Army throughout the campaign on Sicily and in Italy, he had been overseas for four years.
The CDN 4/03/44 reported that James had been wounded in action in Italy.
The CDN 21/08/44 reported that he had returned from overseas service.
