Reference: RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 6452 – 10 Date of Birth 16/09/1874 at Howard Twsp., Kent Co., ON.   Son of Mrs. Christina Mowbray of Thamesville. Attended Botany Public School. Single, First Engineering Master 1902 – 1915, Upper Canada College, Toronto, ON. Lieut. 30th Regt. and Capt. 24th Kent Regt. Attestation: 21/09/1915 at London, ON.

Major William Mowbray joined the 70th Batt Aug 24th 1915 and embarked for England April 1916 and in July he was transferred to 23rd Canadian Res at Shorncliffe, in Dec 1916 he crossed to France attached to 14th Montreal Batt and served with that unit until March 1917 when he was appointed O.C. Quebec Regimental Depot Shoreham.

July 1917 he embarked for France a second time and was attached to 17th Corps on Arras front, Sept 1918 O.C.A.E. Company under 17th Corps and afterwards at Canadian Corps Headquarters, July, Aug, Sept and Oct 1918. Nov 1918 until Feb 1919 in Cambrai with the Third Army and was then transferred to Headquarters Fourth Army, Namur, Belgium as O.C.774  A.E.Coy. April 18th 1919 returned to England and was appointed President Permanent Court of Enquiry at Ripon, Aug 16th 1919 embarked for Canada.

Lieut. Mowbray Wounded

“Lieut. Mowbray, former officer of the 186th Battalion, is reported to have been wounded, though the extent of his injuries are not known. The information was contained in a telegram received on Saturday by the officer’s mother who resides at Botany.”

Discharged at London Aug 26th 1919 due to demobilization.
