Regimental number: 6712 Reference: RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 6325 – 19 Attestation papers not available on LAC. The son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Moore, 107 Park Street, Chatham, ON. Prior to the outbreak of war George (a.k.a “Jumper”) was living at home with his parents at 107 Park Street and was working at McGeachy’s farm.
Went overseas with 1st Contingent. He was with the First Contingent stating that he had arrived at Halifax, and would be home within a “few” days. He had been three months furlough after serving at the front since after the commencement of the war.
Pte Moore had been wounded “after being wounded in the heavy fighting about “La Bassee – he was mentioned in dispatched for gallantry on the field. He was Mentioned in Dispatches “for conspicuous bravery in the heavy fighting in the heavy at Festubert in June 1915 , where he was wounded. He was assigned to special at the Orpington Canadian Hospital in England.
The CDP 18/03/18 reported that he had been granted a three month furlough after serving at the front since shortly after the commencement of the war
He had been appointed to the letter carriers staff for temporary work pending his discharge from the Army. Pte. Moore was one of the 1st Chatham men to enlist at the outbreak of the War. CDP 13/06/18.
