Son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Moody (‘Old Contemptable of BEF 1914) of 32 Poplar St., Chatham, ON. He attended the McKeough Public school and graduated from the Chatham Vocational School. Prior to the war William was a member of the Kent Militia for several years becoming CQM Segt. Of the 48th Highlander Regt. stationed at Camp Borden.
William joined the Kent Regt. at 15 years old as a “Boy” enlistment serving with the regiment for six years becoming CQM Sergt.. At the outbreak of war he went into the active service, for a time he was posted at the Chatham armoury. He transferred to the Royal Canadian Regt., later transferring to the 48th Highlanders as a Sgt. – instructor. William was later commissioned with the Toronto Scottish Regt before going to France. Before going overseas Lieut Moody was married and had a son Billy. In October of 1942 the RCR was stationed at Camp Borden CDN 14/10/42
In April now CQMS with the 48th Highlanders Regt. stationed at Camp Borden William was given leave to attend the funeral of his aunt Mrs. L. C. Moody and spend a few days with his parents. CDN 1/04/42 ON 11 July of 1942 Cecil graduated from the Officers Training Centre, Brockville, ON. CDN 16/07/42 and secured his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Canadian Army. He was awaiting the completion of his course before being assigned to another regiment.
The CDN 23/03/43(P) reported that Lieut. W.C. Moody had arrived overseas with the Canadian Army overseas.
It was while in France that Lieut. Moody saw considerable action and fell victim of ‘shell-shock’ as a result he was transferred back to Canada to recover. He was recovering in Toronto where his wife resided.
