Private Montgomery served in Canada for five years and was overseas in England for six months. During his military career he was promoted to Sergeant Major.

It was reported in the CDN 16/05/42 that Roy then with the Kent Regt. (Active)along with Mrs. Jack Beardall and Miss Eleanor Beardall were the guest “for a few weeks” at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Moore of Hamilton.
