Pte. John Montague embarked for overseas April 21st, 1916, and was stationed at Shorncliffe, Dibgate, West Sandling, East Sandling, and Seaford, transferring to the E.O.R.D. In August 1916 he was pronounced by a medical board as unfit for overseas military service and was given Base duty in England. He was sent to the Discharge Depot, Buxton, October 25th, 1917, and returned to Canada, arriving at Quebec November 28th, 1917. He was transferred to the Special Service Company December 17th, 1917, doing police duty.
Pte. John Montague received his honorable discharge March 27th, 1918, owing to disability due to service.
